Cityfied Project visit – Lund, Sweden
Natalie Samovich and Marc Rechter were invited to participate in the Cityfied City Tour in Lund, Southern Sweden.
The CITyFiED project aims to develop a replicable, systemic and integrated strategy to adapt European cities and urban ecosystems into the smart city of the future, focusing on reducing the energy demand and GHG emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy sources by developing and implementing innovative technologies and methodologies for building renovation, smart grid and district heating networks and their interfaces with ICTs and Mobility.
Enercoutim’s other project activities related to digitalisation, decentralised renewable energy and smart city solutions connect with this large EU project (€46 million to achieve a 73% energy reduction for 260,000m2 of residential space covering 2,213 apartments).
In Lund, the refurbishing of the Linero district (a social housing district built in the early 1970’s) had a major impact not only on energy efficiency, but also on the social tissue of the neighbourhood, as an upgrade in common areas and landscaping was included. As a result, and with only a minor increase in rent (in return for a lower energy bill) the living quality/comfort of the apartments has increased enormously, the value of the properties has risen, and the social standing of the district has visibly improved, attracting new, middle class tenants.
