Horasis Global Meeting 2018

Marc Rechter chaired the mobility panel at the annual Horasis Global Meeting in Cascais. The annual Horasis Global Meeting is one of the world’s foremost gatherings of business leaders who interact with key government officials and eminent thought leaders, this year including José Manuel Barroso (former EU Commissioner), Vijay Eswaran (Chairman of QI Group), Mohamed ElBaradei (former Director General of the IAEA), and Dr. Rajendra Pachauri (former chairman of the IPCC).

The mobility panel consisted of senior management from Volkswagen, Innogy, Efacec, and Dogus Otomotiv, and discussed the future of mobility, touching on drive trains, digitalisation and autonomous driving, car sharing and seamless transport nodes, new business models and impact on electric grid.

The panel concluded that the transition of mobility is well on its way, and many challenges and major opportunities are ahead as the sector evolves based on decarbonisation goals driven by regulatory change, and fast changing consumer demand. Technologies are developing quickly, with battery storage, dynamic grid management and hydrogen fuel cell technology merging around the new business models of mobility as a service.

Thanks to Frank-Juergen Richter for the invite to chair the session.
